“Konbit” is Haitian-Creole for a tradition and philosophy of cooperative communal labor, where farmers work together to prepare their fields. Overtime it’s meaning has grown to expanded to also encompass the broader idea of people coming together to support one another through shared efforts for mutual benefit.
As a person of Haitian descent, the ideology of konbit is deeply ingrained in my values, perspective, and how I move through the world. This spirit of collaboration and support resonates strongly with me. I firmly believe we are at our best and strongest when we unite and work together.
